Wikelerhop has mainly ducks and reed birds. In the autumn there are usually Porrón Moñudo, Porrón Europeo, Silbón Europeo, etc and sometimes Serreta Chica and Serreta Grande. In the reed areas usually Bigotudo, Escribano Palustre and Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental flying by. In the breeding season a lot of Carricerín Común, Carricero Común, Carricero Políglota but also a chance of Rascón Europeo and lately also Cetia Ruiseñor.

Nederlands: Wikelerhop is een ondiepe inham van het Slotermeer met ondiep water, brede rietzomen en hier en daar wat beplanting. Vooral eenden en rietvogels. Op het water zitten in het najaar veelal Porrón Moñudo, Porrón Europeo, Silbón Europeo, etc en soms Serreta Chica en Serreta Grande. In de rietlanden meestal wel Bigotudo, Escribano Palustre en langs vliegende Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental. In de broedtijd veel Carricerín Común, Carricero Común, Carricero Políglota maar ook kans op Rascón Europeo en de laatste tijd Cetia Ruiseñor.

The area can only be visited on foot via the quay on the east side. Path continues to the Slotermeer. The west side can be reached on foot via a footpath that runs through Bargebek and continues over the quay to the summer bungalow complex on the Slotermeer. The circular walk across Balk is approximately 8 km. The walk is signposted.

Nederlands: Het gebied is alleen te bezoeken te voet over de kade aan de oostzijde. Pad loopt door tot aan het Slotermeer. De westzijde is te voet te bereiken via een wandelpad dat loopt via Bargebek en doorloopt over de kade naar het zomerhuisjes complex aan het Slotermeer. De rondwandeling over Balk is ongeveer 8 km. Er is wandelmarkering aangebracht.
