The Vreugderijkerwaard is a 97-hectare wetland with up to five-meter-high river dunes and a secondary channel flowing along the river IJssel. The wetland has reedbeds and mudflats. A large part of the year the area is a resting place for migratory birds, so you can see Avefría Europea, Combatiente and Aguja Colinegra. In the winter, the area is often populated by thousands of Ánsar careto. Breeding birds in this nature reserve include the Guión de Codornices, Charrán Común and Avoceta Común. The Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental finds his hunting ground in the reed land. Accessible by car and parking 500 meters from the bird hide at a restaurant. Best to explore on foot to reach the hide. The route you see on the map is about 5 km, but only possible if the water of the river is low.
