The Schoorlse Duinen are a big dune reserve of 1.875 hectares and especially great for birdwatching in spring and autumn, but even in winter, there are interesting species to spot. In the forested part of this route, you can see species like Cárabo Común, Pico Menor, Carbonero Palustre, Carbonero Garrapinos, Herrerillo Capuchino, Picogordo Común, and Piquitureto Común year-round. In spring, you might also encounter Mosquitero Silbador, Colirrojo Real and Papamoscas Gris, and during autumn migration, there’s occasionally a Papamoscas Cerrojillo or Mosquitero Bilistado among the groups of tits!
In the open dunes, you can see species such as Chotacabras Europeo, Cuco Común, Chorlitejo Chico, Alondra Totovía, and Bisbita Arbóreo in spring, and perhaps even a passing Alcotán Europeo or Águila Pescadora. In winter, there’s a chance of spotting Alcaudón Norteño and Aguilucho pálido.

Nederlands: De Schoorlse Duinen is een groot natuurgebied van 1.875 hectare. Het duingebied is vooral in het voorjaar en najaar leuk om vogels te kijken maar ook in de winter zijn er leuke vogels te vinden. In het bosgedeelte van deze route kun je jaarrond soorten zien als Cárabo Común, Pico Menor, Carbonero Palustre, Carbonero Garrapinos, Herrerillo Capuchino, Picogordo Común en Piquitureto Común. In het voorjaar kun je hier ook Mosquitero Silbador, Colirrojo Real en Papamoscas Gris tegenkomen en met de najaarstrek zit er nog wel eens een Papamoscas Cerrojillo of Mosquitero Bilistado tussen de groepjes mezen!

The Schoorl Dunes are located directly north of the town of Bergen and immediately west of the village of Schoorl. You can park in the parking lots on the Oorsprongweg in Schoorl (paid parking between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.: € 2.20 per hour, a day pass costs € 13.20, 2025). Press a P in the map for directions to a parking lot. The area is also easily accessible by bicycle. And also by public transportation. From NS-station Alkmaar, bus 151 goes to Schoorl. The bus stop is marked on the map with (1). You can best explore the area by bicycle, but also on foot. The route shown on the map is 3 km to viewpoint Zwarte Blink, so there and back in total 6 km. I would allow at least 2 hours for this hike. There are numerous other trails to choose from and you can also easily make the walk longer or make it a circular walk.

Je kunt parkeren op de parkeerterreinen aan de Oorsprongweg in Schoorl (betaald parkeren tussen 10.00 en 19.00 uur: € 2,20 per uur, een dagkaart kost € 13,20, 2025). Druk op een P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplaats. Het gebied is ook uitstekend per fiets te bereiken. En tevens met openbaar vervoer. Vanaf NS-station Alkmaar gaat bus 151 naar Schoorl. De bushalte is op de kaart gemarkeerd met (1). Je kunt het gebied het beste per fiets verkennen, maar ook te voet. De wandelroute die op de kaart is weergegeven is 3 km tot uitzichtpunt Zwarte Blink, Dus heen en terug in totaal 6 km. Ik zou minstens 2 uur uittrekken voor deze wandeling. Er zijn talloze andere paden om uit te kiezen en je kunt de wandeling ook gemakkelijk langer maken of er een rond lopende wandeling van maken.
