In the last two centuries this area changed a lot. The river was moved to another place and this are transformed itself to an area with long streches of reedbeds, open water, lakes and beautiful meadows. It's the best area in the east of The Netherlands for rare birds of the reeds like Carricero Tordal, Avetoro Común, Buscarla Unicolor, Avetorillo común, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Bigotudo and Ruiseñor Pechiazul. Fumarel Común breeds in good numbers. Cetia Ruiseñor became a new breeding bird in the first decade of this century and numbers are increasing quickly. For long this area was a good place to see Pájaro-moscón Europeo, but it's now very rare. Pigargo Europeo can be seen year round.

Nederlands: De Rijnstrangen zijn de voormalige rivierbeddingen van de Rijn. Uitgestrekte rietvelden, open water, kleine meertjes, bloemenweiden bieden tijdens een bezoek een verscheidenheid aan vogels. In de afgelopen twee eeuwen is er veel veranderd in dit gebied. De rivier is verplaatst naar een andere plek en deze is getransformeerd tot een gebied met lange stroken rietvelden, open water, meren en prachtige weilanden. Het is het beste gebied in het oosten van Nederland voor zeldzame rietvogels zoals Carricero Tordal, Avetoro Común, Buscarla Unicolor, Avetorillo común, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Bigotudo en Ruiseñor Pechiazul. Fumarel Común in goede aantallen. Cetia Ruiseñor werd een nieuwe broedvogel in het eerste decennium van deze eeuw en het aantal neemt snel toe. Dit gebied was lange tijd een goede plek om Pájaro-moscón Europeo te zien, maar die is nu zeer zeldzaam. Pigargo Europeo is het hele jaar door te zien.

There's a beatiful walk through the area, the walk is a 14 km long. It can be started at different locations. More information about this walk can be found through the webslink below. In the western part there's a short walk that takes you to the marshes. And where the bridge crosses the water there's a small parking with a nice viewpoint in the middle of the reeds.

In het westelijke deel is er een korte wandeling die je naar de moerassen brengt. En waar de brug het water oversteekt is er een kleine parking met een mooi uitzichtpunt midden in het riet.
