The bird-rich and wet Needse Achterveld is located north of Neede, on the border with Haaksbergen. The Schipbeek stream that winds through it has been made more nature-friendly. The area is very varied with heather, bunt grass, gale, coniferous forest, mixed forest, wet birch forest, juniper berries, pools and three large, shallow water pools that can dry up in the summer. Bird species you may encounter include 5 species of woodpeckers, Aguja Colinegra, Agachadiza común, Archibebe Claro, Alondra Totovía, Bisbita Arbóreo, Camachuelo Común, Picogordo Común, Cuchara Común, Cerceta Común, Cerceta Carretona, Papamoscas Cerrojillo and Colirrojo Real.

Nederlands: Het vogelrijke en natte Needse Achterveld ligt ten noorden van Neede, op de grens met Haaksbergen. De Schipbeek die er doorheen slingert, is natuurvriendelijker gemaakt. Het rustige gebied is heel afwisselend met heide, buntgras, gagel, naaldbos, gemengd bos, nat berkenbos, jeneverbessen, poelen en drie grote, ondiepe waterplassen die in de zomer droog kunnen vallen. Vogelsoorten die je kunt tegenkomen zijn onder meer 5 soorten spechten, Aguja Colinegra, Agachadiza común, Archibebe Claro, Alondra Totovía, Bisbita Arbóreo, Camachuelo Común, Picogordo Común, Cuchara Común, Cerceta Común, Cerceta Carretona, Papamoscas Cerrojillo en Colirrojo Real.

You can park in the Needse Achterveld car park (Visschemorsdijk in Neede). Click on the P in the map for directions to the car park. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 5 km long. There are no restaurants nearby. Handy to have boots or high waterproof walking shoes at hand, because you often stand with your feet in the water here.
