Het Grote Vlak often holds a lot of ducks ( Cuchara Común , Ánade friso , Ánade rabudo norteño , Tarro Blanco , Silbón Europeo and in spring Cerceta Carretona ), gulls and grebes. Sometimes waders, like Aguja Colinegra , are abundant and few songbirds, like Bisbita Alpino and Tarabilla común (sometimes even Ruiseñor Pechiazul ), can be found. The area is also good for finding Paloma Zurita , Collalba Gris and in winter Busardo Calzado .

Het Grote Vlak is easily accessible from the village of Den Hoorn towards the beach. You can park on the roadside, but try to give way to cyclists on the parallel cycle path.
