The Beekhuizerzand is a drifting sand area of approximately 200 hectares. Drift sands are rare natural landscapes in Western Europe, which are largely located in the Netherlands. They have their own flora and fauna. Typical plants and animals for drifting sands are lichens and sand lizards. The Beekhuizerzand is sloping, very open with a few fly pines. On the edges of the sandy area there are forests in which Scots pine is most common. Birds that you may see in the area include Alondra Totovía, Alondra Común, Escribano Cerillo, Bisbita Arbóreo, Colirrojo Real, Reyezuelo Sencillo, Herrerillo Capuchino, Cuervo Grande, Tarabilla común, Chotacabras Europeo and in winter Alcaudón Norteño.

Nederlands: Het Beekhuizerzand is een stuifzandgebied ter grootte van ongeveer 200 hectare op de Noord-Veluwe. Stuifzanden zijn unieke natuurlandschappen in West-Europa die voor het overgrote deel in Nederland liggen. Ze hebben hun eigen flora en fauna. Kenmerkende planten en dieren voor stuifzanden zijn de korstmossen en de zandhagedissen. Het Beekhuizerzand is glooiend, heel open met enkele vliegdennen. Aan de randen van het zandgebied bevinden zich bossen waarin de grove den het meest voorkomt. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt zien zijn onder meer Alondra Totovía, Alondra Común, Escribano Cerillo, Bisbita Arbóreo, Colirrojo Real, Reyezuelo Sencillo, Herrerillo Capuchino, Cuervo Grande, Tarabilla común, Chotacabras Europeo en in de winter Alcaudón Norteño.

There are many hiking trails that traverse the area and the surrounding forests, so it's easy to meander through the area by yourself. From the parking lot (click on the P in the map for a route description) it is about 3 km to the drifting sand area. On the map you also see a suggestion for a circular walk of about 10 kilometers.

Nederlands: Er zijn veel wandelpaden die het gebied en de omliggende bossen doorkruisen, dus het is gemakkelijk op de bonnefooi door het gebied te dwalen. Vanaf de parkeerplaats (klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving) is het zo'n 3 km tot het stuifzandgebied. Op de kaart zie je ook een suggestie voor een rondwandeling van zo'n 10 kilometer.
