The Beekberger Forest is known because it once housed the last primeval forest in the Netherlands. It was a fairytale wilderness with black alders, ash, oak and beech. The forest was more than 8000 years old and unfortunately it was felled in 1871 and cultivated for agriculture. Fortunately, nature restored since 2006. And the result so far is impressive. It is a varied area again where rare plants grow and it is nice to walk. Among the breeding bird of the Beekberger Forest are Zampullín Común, Ruiseñor Pechiazul, Rascón Europeo, Pico Menor, Bisbita Arbóreo, Zarcero Icterino and Camachuelo Común.

Nederlands: Het Beekbergerwoud is bekend als het laatste oerbos van Nederland. Het was een sprookjesachtige wildernis met zwarte elzen, essen, eiken en beuken. Het bos was meer dan 8000 jaar oud en werd helaas in 1871 gekapt en ontgonnen voor landbouw. Gelukkig is de natuur sinds 2006 hersteld. En het resultaat tot nu toe is indrukwekkend. Het is weer een afwisselend gebied waar zeldzame planten groeien en het is heerlijk wandelen. Broedvogels van het Beekberger Woud zijn onder meer Zampullín Común, Ruiseñor Pechiazul, Rascón Europeo, Pico Menor, Bisbita Arbóreo, Zarcero Icterino en Camachuelo Común.

Park your car opposite Woudweg 16 (See the P on the map). It is best to explore the area on foot. The route you see on the map is 2.5 km.
