Azewijnse Broek

The sand extraction area "Azewijnse Broek" consists of several sand extraction ponds with banks and surrounding terrains. The oldest part is a truly beautiful nature area with ponds, groves, islets, rugs and steep banks. Large parts of the area are surrounded by hedgerows, grasslands, ditches and bushes. Artificial islands have been built in the ponds to offer theCharrán Común a suitable breeding ground. However, the area is still in full development so that flora and fauna (reed / marsh banks, sandy soils) will always have new opportunities in the future.

Birds that we can find in the breeding season are: Agateador Europeo, Carricero Políglota, Curruca Zarcerilla, Barnacla Cariblanca,Faisán Vulgar,Somormujo Lavanco,Arrendajo Euroasiático,Lavandera Boyera,Curruca Zarcera,Ánsar común,Papamoscas Gris,Pico Picapinos,Barnacla canadiense grande,Zorzal Charlo,Acentor Común, Paloma Zurita,Paloma Torcaz,Carricero Común,Chorlitejo Chico,Pardillo Común, Cuco Común,Carbonero Común,Focha Común,Mirlo Común, Herrerillo Común,Jilguero Europeo, Escribano Palustre, Gorrión Molinero,Zarcero Icterino, Estornino Pinto, Mosquitero Común,Curruca Mosquitera, Archibebe Común, Tórtola Turca, Alondra Común, Pinzón Vulgar,Chochín Común, Lavandera Blanca, Zorzal Común, Tórtola Europea,Corneja Negra, Colirrojo Tizón, Curruca Capirotada, Zorzal Charlo, Chorlitejo Chico, Charrán Común

Ducks (presumably nesting outside the area): Ánade azulón, Tarro Blanco, Tarro Canelo, Porrón Europeo, Ánade friso, Porrón Moñudo. Special species during the spring migration and autumn migration :Andarríos Chico,Andarríos Grande and Combatiente use the area as well as:Aguja Colinegra, Avefría Europea, Ostrero Euroasiático,Chorlitejo Chico, Charrán Común who occasionally breed in the area. We also see Águila Pescadora and Cigüeña Blanca in the area.

Dutch: In de gemeente Oude IJsselstreek tussen de dorpen Azewijn, Netterden, Gendringen en Lengel ligt het zandwingebied "Azewijnse Broek". Het bestaat uit meerdere zandwinplassen met oevers en omliggende terreinen. Het grootste gedeelte van de plassen waar geen zand of grind meer gewonnen wordt is grotendeels ingericht en er is in het oudste gedeelte een werkelijk prachtig natuurgebied ontstaan met : poelen, bosjes, eilandjes, ruigten en steile oevers voor eisvogel en oeverzwaluwen. Grote delen van het gebied zijn omgeven door miedoornhagen, graslanden, sloten en bosjes. In de plassen zijn ook reeds kunstmatige eilandjes aangelegd om de visdieven een geschikte broedplek aan te bieden.

Het gebied is echter ook nog steeds volop in ontwikkeling zodat flora en fauna (riet/moerasoevers, zandgronden ook toekomstig steeds nieuwe kansen zullen krijgen.

Eenden (broeden vermoedelijk buiten het gebied) : Ánade azulón,Tarro Blanco,Tarro Canelo,Porrón Europeo,Ánade friso,Porrón Moñudo.

Roofvogels komen voor in het gebied maar broeden elders mogelijk door het gebrek aan geschikte mogelijkheden : Busardo ratonero,Cernícalo vulgar,Gavilán Común,Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental,Aguilucho pálido,Alcotán Europeo,Halcón Peregrino.

Bijzondere soorten tijdens de voorjaarstrek en najaarstrek : Steltlopers als : Andarríos Chico,Andarríos Grande en Combatiente maken gebruik van het gebied evenals : Aguja Colinegra, Avefría Europea, Ostrero Euroasiático,Chorlitejo Chico, Charrán Común die incidenteel broeden in het gebied. Ook de Águila Pescadora en Cigüeña Blanca zien we in het gebied.

You can easily get there by car and there is ample parking space. The area is ideal for exploring on foot. The total walking trail as shown on the map is about 6 km.

Dutch: Je kunt er met de auto gemakkelijk komen en er is voldoende parkeergelegenheid. Het gebied is uitermate geschikt om wandelend te onderzoeken. De ingetekende route op de kaart is ongeveer 6 km.

The area is not only interesting for birdwatchers. The area is also particularly interesting for people who are involved with: Flora, Small mammals (Bats), Invertebrates (dragonflies, Butterflies) and Fish.

Dutch: Het gebied is overigens niet alleen voor vogelaars interessant. Het gebied is ook bijzonder interessant voor mensen die zich bezig houden met : Flora, Kleine zoogdieren (Vleermuizen), Ongewervelden (libellen, Vlinders) en Vissen.
