Descripción

Peten Tucha is a mangrove sanctuary and a perfect unspoiled wetland. From the main Rio Lagartos road a 1 km trail leads to a pond that is actually a flowing fresh water spring. The pond is home to crocodiles. One side of the path is on an elevated boardwalk through the wetlands of a mangrove hammock. The other side is a smooth well shaded pathway and both converge at a tall observation tower that has a magnificent view over the forest canopy. Some of the interesting birds you can encounter here are American Pygmy Kingfisher, Boat-billed Heron, Yucatan Wren, Yucatan Bobwhite and Mexican Sheartail.
