Descripción
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental but also Aguilucho Papialbo (early-mid spring) and Aguilucho Cenizo (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for Cernícalo Primilla and Cernícalo Patirrojo (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, Abejaruco Europeo and Carraca Europea. Terrera Común arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including Golondrina Dáurica, and pipits, including Bisbita Gorgirrojo. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see Chorlito Dorado Europeo and Avefría Europea. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
