Descripción
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (Pico Dorsiblanco, Pico tridáctilo, Picamaderos Negro and Pico Mediano). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare Mosquitero Verdoso, Papamoscas Papirrojo and locally common Grévol Común. Cárabo Uralense has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Mochuelo Alpino — is also seen more often. Many Guión de Codornices and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Buscarla Fluvial, Carricero de Blyth), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
