Descripción
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see Flamenco Común, several species of ducks, Focha Común, Avefría Europea, different species of herons, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Martín Pescador Común, Pájaro-moscón Europeo and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as Archibebe Claro and Cigüeñuela común, as well as migratory ducks like Cerceta Carretona and Porrón Pardo. The site is one of the last places where Cerceta Pardilla breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Calamón Común can also be seen.
