Oasi WWF Lago di Burano (Burano Lake protected area) includes coastal sand dunes, Mediterranean maquis and a salty lake dominated by a tower. It is what remains of an ancient lake today connected to the sea through a semi- artificial canal that can be opened according to management needs. The pond has a water surface of 140 hectares and a medium depth of 1 metre. More than 270 bird species have been seen here, among which Porrón Moñudo, Porrón Europeo, Somormujo Lavanco, Flamenco Común and many birds of prey like Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental and Águila Pescadora. Small passerines include Curruca Cabecinegra, Curruca Carrasqueña and Cistícola Buitrón. Note: the reserve can be visited only with a tour (see the info below).
