Lago Matese is a beautiful alpine lake situated in the Matese Regional Park. The lake covers a surface area of 5 square kilometres and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,011 metres above sea level. The lake attracts many ducks and is a rest and feeding area for many birds during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are Cerceta Carretona, Cerceta Común, Porrón Pardo, Zampullín Común, Tórtola Europea, Cuco Común, Grulla Común, Cigüeñuela común, Archibebe Claro, Andarríos Bastardo, Avetoro Común, Avetorillo común, Garza Imperial, Garcilla Cangrejera, Martinete Común, Morito Común, Espátula Común, Abejero Europeo, Culebrera Europea, Águila Real, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Milano Real, Milano Negro, Autillo Europeo, Abubilla común, Alcaudón Dorsirrojo, Chova Piquirroja and Cuervo Grande.

Lago Matese is situated in the Matese Regional Park, within the Province of Caserta. The lake can be reached by car. There is a road that runs along the entire perimeter but best option is to park and explore the banks on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
