Cima Ramà is located at northernmost edge of the Western Mediterranean Sea, and with mountains higher than 1000 m a.s.l. creating a bottleneck for migrating raptors. In spring, the most abundant species are Culebrera Europea in March and Abejero Europeo in May. The site is probably the best spot in Italy for watching migrating Culebrera Europea. Individuals breeding in Italy cross the Mediterranean Sea through the Straits of Gibraltar, making a circuitous route so that the largest concentration of migrating Culebrera Europea in Italy occurs over the Ligurian Apennines, in this site (near Arenzano), both in autumn and in spring.
In mid-March, more than 500 individuals per day can be seen. The most favourable weather conditions are cloudy with southwestern winds, but with no rain. Buitre Leonado are also commonly seen in the area. In the first half of april, the migration of Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental peaks, and also many Vencejo Real can be seen. Águila Real is a breeding species in the area. Cima Ramà is a good spot for falcons, especially Alcotán Europeo and Cernícalo vulgar. Curlo is the easiest and better spot for watching raptor migration here, but also from the ridge toward the Riparo Scarpeggin or from the birdwatching tower you can do great observations. The best site also varies depending on the weather. in the rocky areas, Roquero Solitario is breeding and the Treparriscos is wintering regularly. Also, in the Erica arborea dominated shrublands, the Curruca Rabilarga is very common. Here, the Perdiz Roja is also present.
