While you can obviously expect to see captive birds here, Wilhelma is also home to a few wild birds species. Garza Real and Cormorán Grande nest in the treetops near the front of the zoo, while Ganso del Nilo and the previously mentioned species enjoy hanging around in the penguin and pelican exhibits. Gallineta Común can be found frequently, especially near the front of the zoo, where they like the flamingo exhibit. Paloma Torcaz and Paloma Bravía are found alongside songbirds such as Petirrojo Europeo, Carbonero Común, Gorrión Común, and Mirlo Común.
Bird photographers may enjoy the entry area of Wilhelma, because herons, cormorants, geese, moorhens, and more all get quite close. You could try and go around the time when the penguins and pelicans are being fed to get close to herons and cormorants, although they'll likely be close anyways.

Located in Stuttgart, Wilhelma Zoo has a dedicated parking garage. It is best traversed on foot, and you should allow for 3 - 4 hours to fully experience the zoo. However, most of the interesting birdlife, including the nesting Garza Real and Cormorán Grande (in spring) are located near the front of the zoo, where you can reach them in a few seconds to a couple of minutes.
