Due to the exposed location of the island of Sylt, many pelagic birds can be observed from the west beach of Westerland at any time of year, but especially during the autumn storms. To name just a few of the regular species: Págalo Grande, Págalo Parásito, Pardela Sombría, Fulmar Boreal, Arao Común, Alcatraz Atlántico and Alca Común. In addition, many other, sometimes even rarer, species can be observed with a bit of luck.
