Descripción
The Fiener Bruch is a vast 9,000-hectare lowland area and an important bird sanctuary. The landscape consists of wet meadows, moorlands, and grasslands. It is one of only three breeding areas of Avutarda Euroasiática left in Germany. After the population in the Fiener Bruch collapsed to about 10 animals in the 1990s and the population was threatened with extinction, it has been recovering since the beginning of the 21st century due to comprehensive protective measures. In 2025 there are more than 100 individuals in the Fiener Bruch. In the middle of the Fiener Bruch is the Königsroder Hof with an observation tower and an information centre on the protection of Avutarda Euroasiática.
The area also serves as a breeding ground and resting place for migratory birds, with thousands of Chorlito Dorado Europeo and Avefría Europea passing through during migration. Other birds you can observe include Alondra Común, Lavandera Boyera and Escribano Triguero.
