Vogelfreistätte Mittlere Isarstauseen is one of the most valuable water bird sanctuaries in Bavaria. It has mixed habitats supporting a variety of species. The almost six square kilometers nature reserve has a high nature conservation significance. The water bodies are not used for recreational purposes and hunting is prohibited in the entire protected area. Among the birds you can see are Martín Pescador Común, Rascón Europeo, Zampullín Común, Ánade azulón, Porrón Moñudo, Porrón Europeo, Pato Colorado, Serreta Mediana, Cormorán Grande, Garza Real, Garceta Grande, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental and Gavilán Común.
