Viernheimer Heide is a heathland area with adjacent coniferous and mixed forests. It is particularly characterized by dry grassland and sandy areas in which many rare bird species can be observed, especially in spring and summer. Breeding birds include, for example, Bisbita Arbóreo, Papamoscas Cerrojillo, Alondra Totovía, Colirrojo Real, Oropéndola Europea, Alcaudón Dorsirrojo, Cuco Común, Torcecuello Euroasiático, Abejero Europeo, Chotacabras Europeo and Abubilla común. Various species such as Tarabilla Norteña and Collalba Gris can be seen in the area during migration.
