Descripción
Steinhuder Meer is a large inland lake. Breeding birds, among others are Pigargo Europeo, Águila Pescadora and Porrón Pardo. In winter known for large numbers of waterfowl. The Meerbruchswiesen on the western side of the lake is a wet meadow landscape with shallow water areas, ponds, hedges, bushes and ditches and a well-known bird watching spot during spring and autumn migration. The area has several bird hides and bird observation towers (see the map). Among the birds you can encounter are Cerceta Carretona, Tarro Blanco, Serreta Chica, Serreta Grande, Combatiente, Avefría Europea, Garceta Grande, Grulla Común, Alcaudón Dorsirrojo, Charrán Común and Milano Real.

There are parking spaces at various places around the lake. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that spot. A cycle route around the lake passes all the good birdwatching points and the bird hides and bird observation towers.

Quite a few swallows breed in the birdwatching tower and they shit all over the hut. A plastic bag to put on the benches to protect clothes is quite useful.
