Descripción

Seeburger See is a shallow 86.5-hectare lake fed in the west by the Aue creek at Seeburg and drained to the east in Bernshausen by the same creek. The lake is the largest natural body of water in the Göttingen district. It is bordered in places by reed beds and elsewhere by trees and grasslands. The surrounding land is mostly agricultural and there is a recreational area with swimming facilities near Seeburg. A large part of the lake's shoreline is a nature reserve. Although the lake is a popular tourist destination the birding can be very rewarding, especially in winter and spring. For the usually long distances, a spotting scope at Lake Seeburg is a great advantage.

In winter you can observe many species of ducks and Serreta Grande, Porrón Osculado and Serreta Chica. But also more rare ducks like Porrón Bastardo, Negrón especulado, and Pato Havelda can be spotted. Every now and then divers like Colimbo Chico, Colimbo Grande or Colimbo Ártico appear in winter.

In spring or summer you can observe birds like Cerceta Carretona, Cuchara Común, Zampullín Cuellinegro, Somormujo Lavanco, Zampullín Común, Rascón Europeo, Fumarel Común, Gaviota Enana, Cigüeña Blanca, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Milano Real, Martín Pescador Común, Carricero Políglota, Carricero Tordal, Escribano Palustre, Buscarla Unicolor, Ruiseñor Común and Ruiseñor Pechiazul.
