Descripción
Rappenwört is often referred to as an island, as it is almost completey surrounded by water: a meander cutoff where the Rhine used to flow and the current, straightened course of the river. In addition to interesting birding habitats, there is also an outdoor swimming pool, a nature information centre and various canoeing clubs and restaurants. On the various lakes, ponds and backwaters you can see Cisne Vulgar, Ánade azulón, Cerceta Común, Focha Común, Somormujo Lavanco, Garza Real, Garceta Grande and Cormorán Grande.
The woodlands are also rich in birdlife, especially in spring and summer. A few of the highlight species include Oropéndola Europea, Papamoscas Gris, Pito Cano and Pico Mediano. If the water levels of the pools are low enough to expose muddy fringes, then it is possible to see various resident and passage waders and ducks. Andarríos Chico and Andarríos Grande and possibly Combatiente and Cerceta Carretona.
