Descripción
The Northeimer Seenplatte (the Northeim Lake District) was created by gravel mining. It covers an area of about 360 hectares and consists of 12 artificial lakes. Together with the adjacent Geschiebesperre Hollenstedt (a shallow wetland on the banks of the river Leine), this is a very bird rich area. Bird observation towers, bird hides and viewing points make it easy to observe the birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Ánsar careto, Cuchara Común, Combatiente, Correlimos Común, Alcaudón Dorsirrojo, Carricerín Común, Chorlitejo Chico and Cigüeña Blanca. The complex of gravel pits and the wetland are located north of the village of Northeim and along the rivers Leine and Rhume. There are parkings available. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point.
