The Nienwohlder Moor is a nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein. The 398 hectare nature reserve lies northeast of Hamburg between the villages of Nienwohld, Nahe,Itzstedt and Sülfeld. It protects a drained and mostly gated high bog area, which is the largest and best preserved bog remnant in Schleswig-Holstein. It is now an open bog with numerous water-filled peat engravings surrounded by a bog forest in the area of former industrial use. The nature reserve is also an important habitat for birds. There are various waders such as Zarapito Real and Agachadiza común as well as ducks like Cuchara Común, Cerceta Común, Cerceta Carretona and Porrón Moñudo. Also many Bisbita Arbóreo, Bisbita Pratense and Tarabilla común. Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental and Alcaudón Norteño can be found too. The moorland area is good for Grulla Común which are now breeding here again. In the wooded moorland areas you can find various woodpecker species and Alcaudón Dorsirrojo and many songbirds.
