Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include Cisne Vulgar and Focha Común. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by Avión Zapador, and Ostrero Euroasiático breeds on the gravelly flat banks. Carricero Común, Carricero Políglota and Escribano Palustre live in the reed beds, while Ruiseñor Común and Pájaro-moscón Europeo live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by Alcaudón Dorsirrojo, Curruca Zarcera and Curruca Zarcerilla, while Cernícalo vulgar, Oropéndola Europea and Gorrión Molinero breed in the trees. Perdiz Pardilla, Tarabilla Norteña, Cogujada Común and Collalba Gris live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially Ánsar Campestre de la Tundra, Ánsar careto, Porrón Europeo, Porrón Moñudo and Serreta Grande.
