In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of Ánade azulón, Ánade friso, Porrón Moñudo, Porrón Europeo, Focha Común and Cormorán Grande.
Smaller groups of Cerceta Común and Somormujo Lavanco can usually be seen scattered across the lake. Ganso del Nilo and Cisne Vulgar are often present, as well as Garceta Grande, Garza Real, Martín Pescador Común and Lavandera Cascadeña along the fringes of the lake.
With a bit of luck, you can also see Serreta Grande, Silbón Europeo, Ánade rabudo norteño, Cerceta Carretona (on spring migration) or even a stunning Serreta Chica here!
Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: Jilguero Lúgano, Picogordo Común, Camachuelo Común, Acentor Común, Reyezuelo Listado, Zorzal Alirrojo and Picamaderos Negro.

Accesso
The lake is best accessed by car. You can park near the SV Sulzbach sports ground, which is about 200m from the lakeside path.
Note: Access to the western shore (protected area) and parts of the southern shore (fishing club) is prohibited!
