The Hemmelsdorfer See is a lake that has many different water birds, depending on the time of year. Breeding birds include Cisne Vulgar, Ánade friso, Focha Común and Somormujo Lavanco. Other birds that are observerd regularly are Martín Pescador Común, Pigargo Europeo, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Carricero Común, Carricero Tordal, Ruiseñor Pechiazul and Bigotudo. During migration you can observe birds like Gaviota Enana, Águila Pescadora, Fumarel Común and Porrón Europeo.
Coolest one I've seen were Serreta Chica in winter and I heard Oropéndola Europea in the trees in summer. The boardwalk goes out into the lake and along the reeds. Also great spot for landscape photography.

The Hemmelsdorfer See is located north of Lübeck in the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Sea. The restaurant has a small parking lot, in which you can get a spot very early in the morning. . Otherwise there is a free, public parking area available a little further down the road, which I marked as the trail head. Click on a P in the map for directions.
