Gedenkstätte Stresow is a little memorial of World War II located in the Wendland in midst of a lot of nature. Right next to the memorial is a small lake, where you can often see Serreta Chica, Serreta Grande and several species of duck in Winter.
A few hundred meters futher there is an observation tower with a nice view over the partially flooded meadows and small bodies of water. In winter they are getting used as a wintering and migration place for thousands of ducks and geese such as Ánade rabudo norteño, Porrón Osculado, Silbón Europeo, Ánade friso, Cerceta Común, Cerceta Carretona, Cuchara Común, Porrón Europeo, Porrón Moñudo, Tarro Blanco, Barnacla Cariblanca, Ánsar careto, Ánsar Campestre and Cisne Cantor. If you are lucky than you can spot a Alcaudón Norteño in the bushes.
During migration times many waders visit the area. You can observe Avefría Europea, Correlimos Común, Chorlitejo Grande, Chorlitejo Chico, Zarapito Real, Aguja Colinegra, Andarríos Chico, Agachadiza común, Andarríos Bastardo, Andarríos Grande, Archibebe Oscuro, Archibebe Común, Archibebe Claro and sometimes Combatiente. On the water bodies you can sometimes spot grebes such as Somormujo Cuellirrojo or Zampullín Común or see a Martín Pescador Común.
For a better look there is a route on the dike through the meadows so you can see the whole area from different sides. In the summer there are many swallows and Grulla Común , herons and Cigüeña Blanca. Garza Real and Garceta Grande are not uncommon, with a bit of luck you even can see a pair of Cigüeña Negra.
From the power poles, the bushes and out of the reed you can hear the songs of Escribano Palustre, Escribano Triguero, Escribano Cerillo, Curruca Zarcera, Carricerín Común, Carricero Común, Carricero Tordal, Tarabilla Norteña, Tarabilla común, Alondra Común and see for example Alcaudón Dorsirrojo or Lavandera Boyera.
Over the whole year you can spot many different birds of prey. From the observation tower you can see Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental flying over the reed beds, in the whole area Busardo ratonero, Milano Real and Cernícalo vulgar are not uncommon. On very good days you can even see a Halcón Peregrino or Abejero Europeo. Also often seen are Milano Negro, Aguilucho pálido and Águila Pescadora and sometimes more down by the river Aland in the trees sit one or two Pigargo Europeo.

Feuchtwiesen Gedenkstätte Stresow is located east of the villages of Kapern and Gummern and north of the village of Aulosen. There are two roads to the memorial Stresow. One is a dirt road from Kapern, safer is the normal road from Aulosen. On the memorial is a parking space, where you can park your car. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From there it is better to walk or to ride a bike. You can also easily connect the visit with a bike tour through the beautiful landscape of Wendland.
