The Emsdettener Venn nature reserve is one of the few remaining raised bogs in Germany. The approximately 325 hectare area with moor, wet meadows, marsh, reed beds and forest attracts many birds. The site has several trails and two observation towers. Among the birds you can observe are Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Papamoscas Cerrojillo, Ruiseñor Pechiazul, Bisbita Arbóreo, Zarapito Real, Alcaudón Dorsirrojo and Escribano Cerillo.

Accesso

The Emsdettener Venn is located 5 km west of the town of Emsdetten. By bike, it takes about 15 minutes from the train station Emsdetten (regularly served by trains from Krefeld, Wuppertal, Hamm, Münster and Emden). If you arrive by car there a some small parking lots. Click on a P in the map for directions to a parking spot. The circular route indicated on the map is about 6,5 km and can also be done by bike. The southern observation tower in the Emsdettener Venn is designed so that it can also be used by wheelchairs.
