In autumn you can watch flocks of Grulla Común flying to their roosting grounds in the Ostenholz Moor. About an hour before sunset, large and small flocks fly over the area, trumpeting loudly. Of course you can also watch birds here during the rest of the year, but in autumn this place is special.

The area is located about 40 km north of Hannover. Parking is available west of the junction of the Schorlemer Damm street with the Esseler Damm street near the Heidekröpcke hotel in Essel. Hike along the Schorlemer Damm and then turn right into the Jagdhüttenweg.
