Descripción
Mont des Avaloirs, with its 416 meters, is the highest mountain in Western France. It is higher than the surrounding area. On the mountain of Les Avaloirs there is a watchtower of 18.5 meters high. On the top you have a 360 degree panorama. So during bird migration, this is a nice lookout. But birding in the surroundings is better. The small mountain is located in the middle of the Regional Natural Park of Normandie-Maine, a protected nature reserve with lots of forest, but also big open areas with heather and small scale hedged farmland. A special program of the EU is running in the area to protect Aguilucho pálido and Chotacabras Europeo.
