Forêt Domaniale de la Coubre is a large forest with pine trees, holm oaks, locust trees and open areas with broom/whin scrubs. The open and clear-cut areas are particularly interesting from an ornithological point of view. They are home to the rare Curruca Rabilarga, Alondra Totovía and Chotacabras Europeo. Bisbita Arbóreo and Cuco Común can be observed on the edges of the open areas in spring. Herrerillo Capuchino and Mosquitero Papialbo are also a regional peculiarity and are rarely found anywhere else in the department.
In early summer, with a bit of luck, you can also hear Autillo Europeo calling. Culebrera Europea can sometimes be observed flying overhead. There are rare reports in late summer and fall of Polluela Pintoja at the extinguishing ponds that exist in the forest. With a bit of luck, you may also come across red deer. There is a good trail network in the forest with several hiking routes that are color-coded, so it's best to find a route that suits you.

Forêt Domaniale de la Coubre is accessible from nearby towns such as Royan, La Tremblade, and Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. The D25 road runs through the forest, as does cycle path number 4.
