This small area of fallow land with a couple of bushes at Col de la Gineste is interesting for birdwatching. On one side of the area is a bushy area, on the other side is a mountanious and rocky area. On the fallow area you can observe different resting passerines during migration season. For example Collalba Gris, Papamoscas Cerrojillo, Alondra Totovía, Colirrojo Real, Bisbita Arbóreo, Alondra Común, Petirrojo Europeo or Bisbita Pratense.
On the bushy side of the area typical southern French breeding birds can be observed, such as Curruca Cabecinegra, Curruca Rabilarga, Tarabilla común, Curruca Carrasqueña or Perdiz Roja. Other migrants which can be observed are Cuco Común, Aguilucho Cenizo, Cigüeña Negra, Cigüeña Blanca, Escribano Hortelano, Vencejo Real, Abejaruco Europeo, Abejero Europeo or Culebrera Europea. These migrant species mainly pass overhead.

The Col de la Gineste is a road pass linking Marseille and Cassis by crossing the Calanques de Marseille massif. The birding site is located along the Route de la Gineste and very close to where you can park. Click on the P in the map for directions. You can explore the area best on foot.
