The interest of the Bollenberg site is linked to the presence of dry grasslands (Xerobrometum) interspersed with hedges, bushes and deciduous woodlands. There are also fruit trees and oak groves. Due to the influence of the mountainous screen of the Vosges and the Petit Ballon and Ventron massifs, the climate of the Rouffach hills is one of the driest of the Pré-Vosgiennes hills in Alsace. There are both species from continental environments and species linked to the Mediterranean climate. The fauna numbers 468 species, including birds such as Abubilla común, Alondra Totovía, Mochuelo Europeo, Cuco Común, Torcecuello Euroasiático, Alondra Común, Tarabilla común and Escribano Soteño.

Français: 43,95 hectares de pelouses sèches du piémont vosgien protégées autour du secteur du Bollenberg. L'intérêt du site est lié à la présence de pelouses sèches (Xerobrometum) entrecoupées de haies, de buissons et de boisements de feuillus. On y trouve les habitats suivants, uniques en Alsace : fruticées, chênaie à Chêne pubescent et ourlets herbacés à Géranium sanguin. Soumis à l'influence de l'écran montagneux des Vosges et des massifs du Petit Ballon et du Ventron, le climat des collines de Rouffach est l'un des plus secs des collines prévosgiennes d'Alsace. Sol calcaires durs, peu altérés, surmontés d'argiles de décalcification anciennes.
On y trouve aussi bien des espèces de milieux continentaux que des espèces liées au climat méditerranéen. La faune compte 468 espèces, dont la Abubilla común, de Alondra Totovía, de la Mochuelo Europeo, du Torcecuello Euroasiático, de Alondra Común, du Tarabilla común et du Escribano Soteño. Les reptiles sont représentés par le Lézard vert, la Coronelle lisse et aussi la vipère aspic normalement absente du territoire. Dans les insectes, on peut citer le Chorthippus parallelus, l' Ephippiger ephippiger, Mante religieuse et le Machaon !

From Route D83, exit at "SOULTZMATT, WESTHALTEN" south of ROUFFACH. Click on the P in the map for directions. It is possible to stay at the Auberge Hôtel du Bollenberg. The surroundings of the hostel are made up of orchards which increases the number of observable species.

Visit by (electric) wheelchair is possible but uncomfortable because of the stony path. The easiest birds to observe: Alcaudón Dorsirrojo and Tarabilla común. Other birds you have a good chance to observe are Abubilla común, Mochuelo Europeo, Tarabilla Norteña and Escribano Soteño. The months of March, April and May are ideal for observing the Green Lizard (Lacerta bilineata).
