Descripción
El Gouna is a resort on the Red Sea and an oasis in a surrounding desert. It is ideally placed for migrant birds and one rarely needs to leave the area to find some waders or other birds. The mangrove lagoon next to Abydos Marina is good on an incoming tide.
It is located in a residential area surrounded by big villas and the road leads to the marina hence there is a security guard who may not allow entry.
There are mangrove and scrubby areas with some gardens. In 2022, 2000 new mangrove seedlings were planted. Among the birds you can encounter are Chorlito Gris, Chorlitejo patinegro, Chorlitejo Grande, Avefría Espinosa, Zarapito Real, Gaviota Picofina, Gaviota Ojiblanca, Pagaza Piquirroja, Garceta Común, Garceta Dimorfa, Águila Pescadora and Collalba Gris.
