Hovvig is a large bird sanctuary. The area is in actual fact an "unsuccessful" attempt at land reclamation which has now developed into beautiful wetlands with an abundance of birdlife and a newly established colony of Cormorán Grande. Rascón Europeo, Focha Común, Avefría Europea, Agachadiza común. In addition Ruiseñor Ruso, Carricerín Común, Carricero Común. Bigotudo and Pájaro-moscón Europeo have bred with a few pairs. There is the large Cormorán Grande colony in the trees at the northwest border of the reserve.
