Descripción
Borreby Mose is a large area with bog and reedbeds. Around the bog are extensive meadows used for grazing. Despite attempts to drain and cultivate, today the site is protected under Natura 2000 and serves as a vital refuge for birds. The reedbeds host breeding Avetoro Común, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Bigotudo, Carricerín Común, Carricero Común and occasionally rarities like Buscarla Unicolor and Carricero Tordal. The wet meadows, shallow pools and muddy edges attract many waders and meadow-birds like Aguja Colinegra, Combatiente, Avefría Europea, Archibebe Común, Ostrero Euroasiático, Chorlitejo Grande, and Avoceta Común.
During migration thousands of geese roost in the area, joined by ducks like Ánade rabudo norteño, Cuchara Común, Cerceta Común and Porrón Moñudo. Winter brings Serreta Chica, Porrón Osculado, and Aguilucho pálido. A regular resident is Pigargo Europeo. Less common birds that visit Borreby Mose include Pagaza Piquirroja and Falaropo Picofino. Every year rarities turn up in the area, especially during migration. For example Correlimos Pectoral and Cigüeña Negra have been observed.
