Descripción
Paralimni Lake is a natural, seasonal wetland, one of very few such wetlands left in Cyprus. Even though it is relatively small in size, at around 350 hectares, Paralimni Lake is home to an array of unique wildlife. The area worth visiting mostly before May since the lake starts to get dry. There are a lot of spots from where you can get a close look.
The VIP of the place are the Flamenco Común. You can also find Zampullín Común, Focha Común, Gallineta Común, Abejaruco Europeo, Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Críalo Europeo, Charrancito Común, Avefría Espinosa, Garcilla Cangrejera and many more. The most significant report is the one made by Andy Rollie in 2023 , when a Diederic Cuckoo made its 2nd record for Cyprus. It has also to be mentioned that the place is a habitat for the rare endemic sub-species of Grass Snake, Natrix natrix cypriaca.
