Descripción

Wildwood Bluffs is the best place to observe birds and large wildlife around Powell River. The site is very diverse, making it interesting year-round. As of the present date (end of 2025), a total of 189 bird species have been recorded. In spring and fall, be aware that there may be many bears present. Keep your distance.

In spring, a small colony of Lazuli Bunting nests in the meadows, which are a migration hotspot. Many buntings also nest here or stop over briefly. The forests are very species-rich, and the only known colony of American Redstart on the South Coast is found here in the secondary forests near the entrance.

The bluffs overlooking the sea attract species usually associated with dry habitats, such as flycatchers, vireos, and warblers, but can also be a good spot for migrants.

A small wetland hidden in the vegetation north of the grasslands adds diversity and is a good place to find rails or locally rare species such as Swamp Sparrow, Marsh Wren, or occasionally waders.
