Descripción
The biggest Bulgarian natural lake, situated within the administrative boundaries of the city of Burgas and surrounded by asphalt roads from all sides. Its proximity to the westernmost point of the Black Sea makes the place a typical bottle-neck area for the soaring migrants, waders, gulls, passerines and other. Its average depth of about one meter is very suitable for many bird species to profit from the abundant food resources of the lake. The most preferable place for the foraging pelicans during the periods of migration (up to 55,000 birds per season) and for the wintering Malvasía Cabeciblanca, Porrón Europeo during the winter season. In some years this is the main roosting place for Barnacla cuelliroja in winter time.
