De Straalmolen en Griesbroek is 17 hectares in size and is located in the municipality of Balen. This is a varied area in the valley of the Grote Nete where birds breed, recuperate during bird migration and hibernate. Some artificial nesting sites have been constructed in the dikes for Avión Zapador and Martín Pescador Común. Birds breeding in the areainclude Rascón Europeo, Zampullín Común, Somormujo Lavanco, Porrón Europeo, Cisne Vulgar, Curruca Zarcera, Ruiseñor Pechiazul, Carricero Políglota, Carricero Común, Martín Pescador Común, Escribano Palustre and Lavandera Cascadeña. In time, it is hoped to welcome Avetoro Común as a breeding bird. In the area you can also observe Garza Real, Cigüeña Blanca and Garza Imperial when they are looking for food.

Het bestaat uit grote waterpartijen, broekbossen en permanent historische graslanden. De voormalige viskweekvijvers zijn ingericht als vogelgebied. Het is de bedoeling om vogels de kans te geven om te broeden, te recupereren tijdens de vogeltrek en te overwinteren in alle rust. Er zijn enkele kunstmatige nestgelegenheden aangelegd in de dijken voor de oeverzwaluw en de ijsvogel.

Griesbroek - Departure point Herberg 't Rustpunt (Sint Anneke 3, 2491 Olmen). From Mol, take the N18 (Molsesteenweg) in the direction of Balen. Continue straight on until you reach the Olmensebaan in the direction of Olmen. Enter it and drive straight on, turn left just before the canal Dessel-Kwaadmechelen and drive straight on to De Waterhoek. Click on a P in the map for directions to a parking lot. It is best to explore this area on foot. Waterproof boots are recommended for the walk in the Griesbroek.

Walk via 'knooppuntroute' 4.1 km (look at Natuurpunt Griesbroek). Follow the nodes start-80-81-83-82-81-80. In wet periods the route is difficult to navigate, even with boots, so take the knooppuntroute of 5.5 km. Griesbroek: dry route 5.5 km. Follow the nodes: start-80-81-85-13-14-83-82-81-80.
