Descripción

The vegetation at this site comprises Marri/Jarrah open woodland with a Parrotbush understory and a multitude of lower level flowering plants. A good patch of Wandoo is also traversed. It is a great wildflower spot in late spring and early summer.

Many of WA's south west endemics are regularly seen here. See the birdlist below. Also see the link below to Leeuwin Current Birding's blog which lists many and the likely locations for them (click on the 'read more' in the blog).

Accesso

Victoria Reservoir is located 26 km east of Perth CBD. Visitors will need wheels. The site has two carparks - the upper is always available but the lower is closed on weekends (via a boom gate at the upper park). Birders can walk down a tarred road between the two parking areas to access a track running down to a stairs immediately above the reservoir wall.

Proceed down the stairs to a tarred road and then down to the old dam wall. From there proceed along a reedbed to a meeting place (good hide) overlooking a grassed area. The grassed area (and beyond to the main dam wall) is very prospective for a number of the endemics.

Note - a more interesting alternative for weekend birders (and birders generally) is a fairly easily discernable footpad between the two carparks. So... at the upper carpark proceed just beyond the perimeter 'rocks' to immediately find the pad. Follow this down 'inside' the pipeline (which will almost always be visible so pretty well eliminating the possibility of becoming lost in the woods) to old Water Authority infrastucture and then shortly on to the lower carpark. This 'inside the pipeline' pad can be good for the thornbill and robin.
