Rice Nature Reserve is a small but great place for birds. Some open area between trees then a drop with a track down to the creek with reeds along it, through the bushland. Birds you can observe include Eastern Rosella, Red-rumped Parrot, Purple-crowned Lorikeet, Great Egret, Black Swan, Chestnut Teal, Superb Fairywren, Red-browed Finch, Hoary-headed Grebe, Spotted Pardalote, Willie Wagtail, Dusky Moorhen, Eurasian Coot, Eastern Shrike-tit, Welcome Swallow and Flame Robin.

Rice Nature Reserve is located alongside Thompsons Creek, 8 km north of Torquay and 15 km south of Geelong. There is a carpark as you come around the corner on the right if you are coming from McCanns Road along Horseshoe Bend Road. Press P on the map for directions to the carpark.
Farmland is on the left and I saw Flame Robin there one winter. I like to spend about an hour if I can to really explore and find any birds that might be around in that time.
