Descripción

The Sierra de San Javier is a mountain range that rises west of San Miguel de Tucumán. The sierra is covered by Yungas cloud forest, montane forest, and high mist‑grasslands and protected largely within the Parque Sierra de San Javier (14,174 hectares). The Park has a subtropical climate with a marked dry season during the winter (July – September). For almost half of the year, the eastern slopes of the mountain range are covered with clouds, which are the main source of water for the vegetation during the dry season.

The park has a nice biodiversity of birds with more than 300 species recorded. Key species include Tucuman Amazon, Rothschild's Swift, Blue-capped Puffleg, White-browed Tapaculo, Slaty Elaenia, and Yellow-striped Brushfinch.
