National nature reserve on south shore of Tay estuary. Good for waders, ducks, seabirds and woodland birds, otters and seals.
Tentsmuir Forest National Nature Reserve provides a variety of wildlife. The area has woods, mud and sand estuary, heath and sand dunes. Grey seals float effortlessly on their backs upriver on a rising tide, only their rounded noses showing above water. In September/October waders are varied (up to 13 species though not numerous). Χιονόπαπια, Σταχτόπαπια, (Κοινή) Πουπουλόπαπια, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Βουκεφάλα and (Ευρωπαϊκή) Μαυρόπαπια offshore. (Ευρασιατική) Μπεκάτσα, Χρυσοβασιλίσκος and (Κοινός) Σταυρομύτης in the woods. Μαυρολαίμης, Καστανολαίμης, Σταχτοπετρόκλης and Λιβαδοκελάδα on the dunes.
