Approx one sq mile of flooded and landscaped gravel pits eastward to Appleford. Good for waders, winter wildfowl, nesting passerines.
Sutton Courtenay Gravel Pits has numerous footpaths which may be diverted in case of active gravel extraction. Αργυροτσικνιάς, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς and Γελαδάρης are present. Δεντροσπουργίτης, Οχθοχελίδονο and warblers breed. In winter, there may be, Ασημόγλαρος της Κασπίας, Ισλανδόγλαρος, Glaucous Gull, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκοτσέλα, Ring-necked Duck and waders.
From Oxford take A34 south, go left at Tesco Abingdon interchange, first right to Drayton, right again to Sutton Courtenay. 2 car parks in village. Or seek permission to park at Appleford village hall. Train station in Appleford, bus stops in both villages.
