RSPB reserve accessed via tidal causeway from the Isle of Colonsay. Stronghold for Ορτυκομάνα during summer and Barnacle Goose in winter.
Oronsay is a remote island that is cut off by tide, that gives a real sense of isolation. Range of habitat including farmland managed for Ορτυκομάνα, islands and skerries with good numbers of terns, and internationally important area for wintering Barnacle Goose.
Access from the Isle of Colonsay (see separate entry on Birdingplaces) via The Stand possible only at low tide (see link to tides table below). Information on safe crossing times can be obtained at the post office in Scalasaig.
Reserve managed by the RSPB. Please keep to paths, especially in breeding season. Also breeding colony of Grey Seals.
