in Horsey Mere freshwater, marsh and sea birds can be seen (there is a sea beach with seal viewpoint nearby). Look for (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκοτσέλα, (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι, (Ευρασιατικός) Ήταυρος, egrets, Καλαμόκιρκος, Μαχητής, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Γερανός, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρομύτα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Ψευταηδόνι, Μουστακαλής, Σχοινοποταμίδα, Καλαμοποταμίδα, (Μεγάλο) Καλαμοτσίχλονο and (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αβοκέτα. Μαυρότρυγγας, Χιονοτσίχλονο, Δαχτυλιδόχηνα and Lapland Bunting may appear in winter.
Reeds are cut for thatch from December to April and Μουστακαλής often feed in the resulting stubble.

Access
Horsey is 15 miles north of Great Yarmouth, via Caister and Winterton. It is 22 miles northeast of Norwich. Drive east on A47 then left in Acle and continue through Clippesby and Martham. Nearest rail station is Acle, ten miles away. Nearest bus stop, Somerton, 2 miles.
Access by yacht or motor boat via Hickling Broad and River Thurne. Access restricted in winter to protect wildfowl from disturbance. Ross's boat trips offer one hour wildlife cruises from Horsey. See NT link below.
